About Us
Arctic Slope Telephone Association Cooperative (ASTAC) is a member‑owned telecommunications cooperative serving residents and businesses across Alaska’s North Slope. ASTAC delivers essential connectivity across more than 90,000 square miles of remote Arctic terrain, supporting communities, economic development, and critical infrastructure.
The Opportunity
ASTAC is seeking a Chief Executive Officer / General Manager to lead the cooperative through its next phase of operational excellence, technological advancement, and strategic growth. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO/GM is responsible for overall organizational leadership, financial and operational performance, regulatory compliance, and long‑term strategic direction. This role represents ASTAC with key stakeholders and provides governance oversight for its subsidiary, NSTI, with future governance responsibility for the ASTAC Foundation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and execute Board‑directed vision and priorities
- Oversee enterprise operations, financial performance, and capital planning
- Ensure regulatory compliance and effective enterprise risk management
- Lead organizational growth, network modernization, and external partnerships
- Build and sustain a high‑performing, mission‑driven leadership team
- Represent ASTAC with communities, government entities, and industry partners
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, telecommunications, or a related field
- Senior executive leadership experience (10+ years), including responsibility for operations, finance, and strategy
- Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision‑making capabilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a cooperative or nonprofit utility environment
- Prior experience living or working in Alaska, preferably including the North Slope region
- Prior experience working with tribal entities and members
- Advanced degree (MBA, MPA) or other executive leadership training
- Familiarity with federal telecommunications regulations and rural broadband initiatives
Work Location
Based in Anchorage, Alaska, with regular travel to North Slope communities and periodic travel to Washington, D.C.
