Broadband Alert: FCC to Simplify Broadband Nutrition Labels

News & Announcements

Order released on July 22, 2026.

SUMMARY

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released an Order on July 22, 2026 ensuring consumers get quick and easy access to the information they want and need in order to compare broadband plans from broadband labels. These changes will eliminate certain broadband label burdens for providers while sustaining the benefit to consumers.

THIS MAY APPLY TO YOU IF…

You are a broadband provider.

ACTION ITEMS & TIMELINE

The FCC approved updates/changes for the broadband labels as follows:

  1. Phone Point-of-Sales: Labels can now be summarized over the phone, rather than reading the entire label.
  2. Passthrough Fees: Can now display fees in the aggregate by using “up to.”
  3. Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP): Program ended in 2024 – this section is removed.
  4. Customer Portals & Websites Point-of-Sales Display: Can now be displayed using a link or icon.
  5. Machine Readability: Removed the requirement of a dedicated URL. Labels must still be made available to customers with disabilities.
  6. Archive Labels: Eliminates the need to archive the labels for 2 years.
  7. Multilingual Requirements: Labels must be made available in English and any other language you market in.

Congress directed the FCC in 2021, adopted in 2022, to require broadband providers to display labels to help consumers make informed decisions when choosing a broadband plan. Broadband labels have been in place since 2024.
