Larry Thompson, Vantage Point’s CEO, Founder, and Executive Director, NTCA Industry Committee member, and previously a representative on the FCC’s Broadband Deployment Advisory Committee, says, “I have worked closely with Mike Romano for decades on policy, analysis, advocacy, industry strategy, and numerous executive matters. There are very few individuals who understands as much about not only rural broadband policy, but the realities that rural broadband providers face in their unique economic, geographic, and technological environment. Mike is an exceptional leader, and a personal friend. I am thrilled to see him at the helm of NTCA.”
Jeff Smith, VP of Public Policy and Advocacy at Vantage Point and previously the CEO of GVNW – A Vantage Point Company, where he was a longstanding member of NTCA’s Industry Committee, shared his congratulations as well. “Mike has been both in the trenches and at the forefront of the most complex, transformative policy battles our industry has ever seen. I know him well and have tremendous appreciation and respect for what he’s done for rural broadband providers. His experience, leadership, and dedication has been critical for a long time, and now as CEO he ensures that NTCA is extremely well positioned for the challenges and opportunities ahead for rural connectivity and NTCA’s membership.”
Jacki Miskimins, FRS Board member, the 2025 Chair of NTCA’s Associate Member Advisory Council (AMAC), and Vantage Point’s Director of Communication, shares, “Mike’s longtime service to NTCA’s members has included consideration for associate members as well, working in support of the entire ecosystem for the benefit of Rural America. His thoughtful, inclusive leadership has kept associate members informed and involved – allowing us to work alongside NTCA in service to rural providers and in pursuit of the association’s strategic vision. I am elated that the NTCA Board of Directors has chosen such a wonderful person and leader for this next chapter. Congratulations, Mike!”
We look forward to congratulating Mike in person at the upcoming RTIME gathering in Orlando, Florida later this month.
NTCA holds a legacy of leadership that has honored, protected, and upheld the most imperative priorities for rural broadband providers. In that spirit, Vantage Point also extends a heartfelt congratulations to Shirley Bloomfield on her announced retirement and inspiring, impactful career. As Shirley concludes her active service as CEO, and as Mike steps into this role, we are confident the rural broadband industry remains in excellent hands – and we are committed and excited to continue our role supporting the association, our many industry friends and clients, and the imperative mission of connecting Rural America. Together.
