Public Notice released May 20, 2025.
SUMMARY
On May 20, 2025, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released DA 25-428, the Public Notice announcing the biennial recertifications of Study Area Boundary (SAB) data are due no later than June 30, 2025.
According to the FCC’s Study Area Boundary Order, incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs) and state commissions that have voluntarily agreed to file SAB data on behalf of some or all ILECs operating within their jurisdictions (certifying state commissions) must review and recertify SAB data every two years. ILECs without certifying state commissions will need to complete this process themselves.
The FCC’s SAB requirements are mandatory and serious consequences may result from failure to comply. Recertification is a two-step process:
- Confirming SAB data previously filed with the FCC
- Recertifying data via the FCC’s online process
