Industry Alert: Google Cloud Spectrum Access System (SAS) Retirement

News & Announcements

Full shut down on June 10, 2027

SUMMARY

Google announced that the Google Cloud Spectrum Access System (SAS) for the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) spectrum band is being retired. Effective June 10, 2026, Google is no longer accepting new SAS customers or new CBRS deployments. Existing Google SAS customers may continue operations during the transition period, but the service is scheduled to be fully shut down on June 10, 2027. Any CBRS network, CBSD registration, or spectrum authorization currently dependent on Google SAS will need to be migrated to another FCC-authorized SAS administrator to avoid potential service interruption.

THIS MAY APPLY TO YOU IF…

  • You currently utilize Google for CBRS SAS services.
  • You operate CBRS radios, CBSDs, or private LTE/5G equipment that is registered through Google SAS.
  • You rely on Google SAS for channel availability, EIRP guidance, grants, heartbeat management, or Environmental Sensing Capability (ESC) related coordination.
  • You have planned CBRS expansions, new site activations, or device additions that may have assumed continued use of Google SAS.

ACTION ITEMS & TIMELINE

  • Immediately: Identify all CBRS deployments, CBSDs, sites, PAL/GAA usage, and planned activations that currently rely on Google SAS.
  • Near term: Evaluate and select a replacement FCC-authorized SAS provider that supports the required geography, equipment vendors, ESC coverage needs, operational workflows, and support expectations.
  • Planning phase: Extract existing network data, CBSD registrations, grant information, site parameters, and device configurations from the Google SAS.
  • Deadline: Existing Google SAS operations must be fully transitioned prior to June 10, 2027.
