Public Notice Released April 29, 2026
SUMMARY
On April 29, 2026, the FCC released DA 26-420 announcing the launch of the coverage restoration process to begin on May 7, 2026. Fixed or Mobile service providers will utilize this process to restore availability coverage on the National Broadband Map (NBM). The commission also released a Data Specifications for the Coverage Restoration Process document which outlines the restoration request process.
THIS MAY APPLY TO YOU IF…
Your company has broadband serviceable locations (BSLs) removed from the NBM due to a failed verification inquiry, an audit or lost or conceded availability challenges.
ACTION ITEMS & TIMELINE
Review your company’s verifications, audits and challenge results. If a BSL was removed, gather the required data and submit a coverage restoration request prior to the next BDC filing window opening.
Fixed Broadband Providers must submit:
- Location, technology, and characteristics of the BSLs
- Category codes for the challenges
- Reason code the BSLs can now be served
- Data to support the restoration identified in the Data Specifications for Provider Infrastructure Data in the Challenge, Verification, and Audit Processes
The FCC will be updating the BDC User guide, providing a tutorial video and new articles including guidance on the process in the BDC Help Center. FCC educational office hours by technology are planned for May 19, 20, 26 and 27.
